Moving From California To North Carolina
Has anyone moved from Kelia to North Carolina (Rally or Charlotte Area)? 3
My husband and I plan to move to North Carolina within a year. We're looking at the Rally and Charlotte areas. My husband is a software engineer and we know there is a lot of technical work in this field. Has anyone moved from CA to NC? What are the key differences? Is NC a better place to start a family? We have two young children and we were looking for a cheap place to live which would also be a great place to raise a family. We have a lot of capital, but C $ 750,000 is not enough to make it. I am fed up with speed, high cost of living and small quantity. We want to relax and unwind and without us. I plan to visit North Carolina personally this summer to see if we like it as much as we would like. Are damp and insects the same evil? And how does traffic compare to traffic in Los Angeles?
Alas! I'm from the Raleigh area, have been at SoCal for about 10 years and recently moved. For technical work, I'll take a look at the Raleigh Durham area. I like Charlotte too, but it's a banking / finance town and the prices are high.
I would say that the Triangle (RaleighDurham) area is a better place to start a family than SoCal as a whole, especially LA. In fact, I have a reason to come back here. Here is a list of my differences and disadvantages.
RaleighDurham (RDU) is still much cheaper than CA. People here complain about using it, but it's * nothing * compared to CA. You can use it with real garden. It is amazing.
The same is true of traffic. People complain here, but they don't see 405 on Friday afternoon! Also, drivers here are less aggressive. I lost my Los Angeles driver's hat.
The public schools in Wake County, where Raleigh is located, are as good as Chapel Hill and I UNC. I would say it's better than what I saw at LA Unified. The Durham Company joke is usually not so good.
The RDU is 34 hours from the mountains and 11 hours from the beach, so neither is as close as SoCal, but both are convenient weekends. The beaches of North Carolina are not as long as the beaches of California, but in my opinion the water is warmer.
Due to the weather and insects, the CANC was hit. It's humid in North Carolina, which is great for the garden (spring is good), but not good for the climate. In fact, I've found that California's summers are nice because when North Carolina is wet, there's more shade and the sun isn't so bad. But North Carolina's winters are definitely colder than California, with occasional snowfall and generally more rain. And yes, there are other bugs out there, but that's fine, most people take Orkin or another company once a year to spread and treat the bugs. In fact, when I got back I was scared to make a mistake and I was surprised it wasn't as bad as I thought.
Culturally, RDU does not have as many activities as LA, but there is still much to be done in local theaters, SWs, etc. Also, I noticed that, as a minor, you don't have to fight a lot of crowds to do something about it, and parking is not very difficult.
You may be surprised that RDU is not like LA, but for example you will find many excellent Thai and Indian restaurants. I still remember the good Mexican food in the cramped space of Los Angeles.
Yes, the people here are very nice. Then I found out that the people of California are also friendly. People in North Carolina are more religious, but RDU has many religions (from Hinduism) and it doesn't matter if you don't go to church.
Well, finally, if you are visiting the RaleighDurham area, check out all the little things here. Chapel Hill is a lovely college, Kerry is a thriving suburb, and there are many other smaller campuses in Mauriceville, Lily Springs, Wake Street, and more.
If you have other questions, just add them. I'm glad to help you.
I live in North Carolina and travel a lot. I currently live in Santa Barbara and I can say that there is a big difference between NC and CA. The people of North Carolina, who have a good South attitude towards Calais, have a sarcastic and condescending personality. Riley and Charlotte are everything you need. The rally is about a quarter of a mile from Wilmington, where the beach is. Its use is definitely very cheap. In Los Angeles, you get a nice 4bd / 2 bath for half price. More and more companies are moving to the Rally and Charlotte areas, so there are more jobs. The salary is reasonable. Tech jobs are well paid. It's definitely not fast, but traffic in cities can be crazy during transit, but not as fast as Los Angeles. It can be humid in summer and bugs will eat you alive during the hours. This is a good place to make s. High school sports are a thing of the past in North Carolina. I am one of the famous college basketball teams in the country.
